It’s the golden age of tobacco free dip alternatives, and we’re smack dab in the middle of some pretty innovative solutions to kick nicotine. It got us thinking that the competition is a showdown between the legacy champion and new challengers. Like every good wrestling match, there’s a villain, and tobacco is the villain in the dip showdown.
Tobacco has nicotine, and the combination is what makes dippers feel trapped. It’s not the flavor or experience they’re trying to get rid of; it’s just the bad-for-you stuff they’re trying to kick.
How does hemp match up against tobacco as a dip alternative?
Hemp is the challenger in this match, and we think it’s the heavy favorite - if we do say so ourselves. Here’s a little breakdown of the matchup:
Agricultural Staple
Artisan Grange® is in North Carolina, so we are absolutely obsessed with agriculture. Tobacco crops have carried our state for many years, and we have nothing but respect and admiration for the farmers and the land. But as demand for tobacco has decreased, those farmers have been hit with some difficult decisions.
Ding, ding, ding, here comes hemp. The hemp plant is an amazing crop for a few reasons.
Hemp can be ready to harvest in around 3 or 4 months
The crop itself is good for the soil
Cultivation is cheaper than most crops because it requires less time and material
Growing tobacco is a long and well-honed tradition, but hemp is an even better agricultural endeavor.
This round goes to hemp.
Addictive Nature
We stacked the deck here. Tobacco obviously loses to hemp dip because it has nicotine. But it goes to our bigger point: dipping isn’t supposed to be another chore. The world is getting crazier by the day, and it’d be nice to have a simple, guilt-free pleasure to kick back and enjoy. It’s hard not to imagine dippers of old enjoying the habit while blissfully unaware of the health implications.
But today we know better. Tobacco, no matter how long it’s been around, isn’t the kind of simple pleasure we’d like it to be.
Hemp takes this round because it has an unfair advantage: it’s nicotine-free.
Tasty
Okay, now we’re getting down to the nitty gritty. We’ve covered the main ingredient, but none of that matters if a dip alternative tastes like dirt.
Tobacco is an acquired taste for some, but there’s no downplaying the fact that a lot of people enjoy the flavor and experience. Tobacco doesn’t really taste like anything else, so the question is, can something else taste like tobacco?
Not to toot our own horn, but Artisan Grange® became a talked-about thing when we started out with Dublend® Hemp Dip. The origin story is that a handful of dippers got together and belly-ached about not being able to find a dip alternative that still tasted like tobacco. In true form, they decided to make one of their own. The process wasn’t necessarily easy, but with over 100 years of tobacco dipping experience under their belts, they knew exactly how it was supposed to taste.
Dublend® is available in Wintergreen, Straight, Dark Fired, & Mint. It’s the powerhouse of tobacco-free dip that still tastes like tobacco.
Not to be outdone, Cansted® came along shortly after for folks looking to change it up and leave out the tobacco taste altogether. Cansted® comes in Cinnamon, Citrus, Dark Mint, Ice Mint, Berry, & Espresso.
Decision
We’re putting our money (literally) behind hemp dip. It checks all the boxes, and we like its scrappy attitude.
